The type of visa you need depends on your purpose, such as a travel, work visa, student pass or long-term pass. You will have to apply for the correct visa before traveling to Singapore

What visa do I need to visit Singapore?

Singapore actually offers visa-free entry for citizens of many countries, this means you do not need any visa to enter. There are 2 groups of countries that can stay from 30 to 90 days.

Here are the countries that can stay in Singapore for 30 days:

  • ASEAN Countries

  • Japan

  • Taiwan

  • Hong Kong

  • UAE

Here are the countries that can stay in Singapore for 90 days:

  • EU Countries

  • South Korea

  • Norway

  • Switzerland

  • USA

  • Canada

  • Australia

  • New Zealand

  • UK

If you are not in either of these 2 groups, you will have to apply for a visa.

How to apply for a visa (14A Visa)?

If your country was not on either of the lists, don’t worry, here is a quick step-by-step on what documents you need for a visa, and how to apply for a visa:

What documents do I need?

  • Passport (valid for at least 6 months)

  • Recent passport-sized photograph

  • Flight itinerary and proof of accommodation

  • Proof of sufficient funds (bank statements)

  • Visa Application for 14A

How to apply for a visa?

  1. Apply online via the Singapore Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) or at a Singaporean Embassy

  2. Submit all the documents mentioned above

  3. Pay the visa fee

  4. Wait around 1-2 weeks for processing

  5. Recieve your e-VISA! (if you are approved)

Housing & Renting

Options for renting in Singapore

    • Luxury hotels, ideal for premium experience

    • Mid-range hotels, comfortable and well located without breaking the bank

    • Ideal for families and travelers staying for a few weeks (30 days max)

Driving & Transportation

Singapore has one of the best public transportation systems in the world, making it very easy to get around without owning a car in the city. However, if you want to drive, there are very strict regulations for foreigners when it comes to driving.

Public Transportation in Singapore

    • Covers almost all of Singapore

    • Fastest and Most convenient

    • Use an EZ-Link Card or contactless bank card for payments

    • Extensive network reaching places not covered by the MRT

    • Readily available but a lot more expensive than public transport

    • Grab (similar to Uber) is cheaper than taxis during off-peak hours but can be more expensive during peak times

    • Other apps are Gojek, TADA and Ryde

What is an EZ-Link Card?

This is a stored-value card that is essential when you are going to be using Public Transport in Singapore, this card can be purchased at MRT stations, 7-eleven store, as well as online.

Can tourists rent a car in Singapore?

Yes of course, however car rentals are a lot more expensive and public transport is a lot more convenient.

But if you are set on renting a car, here are the documents you need to rent a car:

  • You have to be minimum 23-25 years old (varies by rental company)

  • International Driving Permit (IDP) or valid foreign drivers license

  • Credit Card for deposit and payment
